Introduction
The SundaySky Recorder enables you to quickly and easily record your screen or camera. After recording, you can edit and enhance the footage using all the features available in the Studio, including text and media overlays. The recordings function like any other video footage and can be added to any media placeholder in a scene.
The Recorder is accessed from the Media Library, and recordings created in your account are saved in an automatically generated folder named Recordings.
Here are some popular use cases for which the Recorder can be used:
- Product explainer
- Recorded presentation
- Meeting summary
- Announcement
- Company update
- Walkthrough
- Training video
Note:
Currently, you can record either your screen or your camera. In the near future, you'll be able to record both your camera and screen simultaneously, as well as your microphone and screen together. See the SundaySky Product Roadmap for more information.
Prerequisites
The minimum required Chrome version for using the SundaySky Recorder is 116, released August 15, 2023.
Before Recording
1. | If you're recording your screen, make sure the application you want to record is open. Close unnecessary applications that may distract or interfere with the recording. |
2. | If you're recording your camera, allow Chrome access to your camera and microphone. |
3. | Make sure that your camera is not being used for any other application other than SundaySky. You can't record with your camera in SundaySky if it's being used by other software, including videoconferencing apps. |

After Recording
After stopping the recording, the footage is opened in the Preview Recording window. Several options are now available for managing the recording. Click through the tabs below the image to learn more about each one.
Click the play button to preview the recording.
Click Re-record to discard the current recording and begin the process again.
Click Save to save the current recording as is and return to the Studio. The recording is saved in the Recordings folder. Like any media asset, it can be renamed and moved to another folder in the Media Library.
Click Edit recording to open the recording in the Asset Editor, where it can be cropped, trimmed, and edited in various ways.
Edit recording becomes available only after the recording is uploaded and processed by the SundaySky servers. If you click this button before the upload is complete, a progress bar will appear, showing the upload percentage. Once it reaches 100%, you will be able to access the Asset Editor.
Note the following important information about saving edits:
1. Any edits made to the recording before you click Save for the first time in the Asset Editor will overwrite the original file and those changes cannot be undone. This allows you to remove parts of the recording, such as 15 seconds of silence at the end or a mistake while reciting a line, resulting in a polished file in the Media Library that will require fewer changes in the future.
2. Once the recording is saved to the Media Library, any future edits can be reverted. Reverting an edit is useful because, after editing the recording to fit a specific placeholder (e.g. by cropping), you can always return to the previous version when you need to use the recording in a different placeholder.
Click the X to discard the current recording and leave the Preview Recording window.
