Cropping a Media Asset to Fit a Placeholder

Overview

When you want to highlight a specific part of a media asset, you can use an easy tool to control what appears in the media placeholder. Cropping also helps you focus on a key section of an asset while removing extraneous elements that might distract from the main content.

The guidelines in this article apply to both static images and video assets.

The Media Asset Before Cropping

In the example below, the media asset does not fit the placeholder as intended. Only the woman standing at the head of the table is meant to be shown, while the other people seated at the table should be excluded.
The asset needs to be cropped so that the most important content is properly displayed in the placeholder.

With the canvas now set to Scene placeholder, the portion of the media asset that can fit into the placeholder is displayed by the Media Editor. The challenge is that what is shown is not what needs to be displayed.
