About this article:
This article provides detailed guidance for step 7 of the template creation process: Preview and Test Your Template.
Overview
Previewing your template is an essential step, both before the first time you publish and after every edit you make. The preview gives you a quick way to confirm that everything looks and behaves as expected. If you notice anything that needs adjusting, simply close the preview and return to the Workspace or Input Form Builder to make your updates.
When you preview a template, you're reviewing three key elements together:
- The input form, as configured in the Input Form Builder
- The content used in your scenes, including text, media assets, AI voice, and other elements
- The resulting video, generated based on the selections in the input form
Seeing these elements together lets you validate the full Contributor experience and ensures your template is ready for publishing.
Accessing the Preview
Access the Preview action using one of the following options:
What You See in the Preview
The left side of the screen displays the input form that Contributors will use to personalize the template, while the right side shows the video preview, which updates dynamically according to the form fields.
Using the Scene Picker
Use the Scene selection panel to choose what you want to preview: either the full video or a specific scene.
While previewing individual scenes can help you focus on specific content, it's a good practice to also preview the full video to review the complete flow from beginning to end and ensure smooth transitions between scenes.
What to Review When Previewing the Video
When previewing, your goal is to simulate the Contributor experience in Amplify, filling out the input form and watching how the video responds to each selection. This helps ensure that both the form and the resulting video behave exactly as intended.
Focus on the following areas during your review:
-
Input field functionality
Verify that all input fields work correctly, including required fields, multiple choice options, and media uploads.
-
Input field label clarity
Check that the field labels are clear, intuitive, and easy for Contributors to understand.
-
Personalized content in the video
Confirm that the content in each scene—narration, media assets, on-screen text—updates correctly based on the information you enter in the input form.
-
Pacing and scene duration
As you watch the preview, note whether any scenes feel too short or too long. You can adjust the timing using the Minimum scene duration feature to ensure each scene displays optimally.
If you notice any issues while previewing, you can easily return to the Studio to adjust the scene content or update the input fields in the Input Form Builder.
Previewing with Viewer Profiles
A viewer profile is a predefined set of data that simulates a real viewer. By using viewer profiles, you can quickly preview how the template behaves with different inputs, without having to manually refill the form each time. This is especially helpful for previewing different scenarios without having to manually re-enter the various inputs your form may include.
Here's an example of how the input form appears when using a viewer profile:
To learn how to create a viewer profile step by step, see Previewing a Video with a Viewer Profile. Although that article focuses on videos, the same guidelines apply when previewing templates.
Additional Review Options
The Review options menu provides tools that help you review and share your template.
Export a script
Download a PDF version of the script to review all text and content included in the video.
See Exporting the Video Script for full details.
Download a draft (+ CC)
Download a draft version of the video, with or without closed captions, to see how it will look once a Contributor personalizes it.
Note that the downloaded draft includes a watermark.
See Downloading a Draft to learn more.
