Overview
Saving a video as an Amplify template lets you quickly reuse an existing video as the foundation for new content. With just a few clicks, you can turn any video in your Video Library into a template that can be used by Contributors in SundaySky Amplify. This is especially helpful when you want to speed up content creation and avoid rebuilding templates from scratch.
When you save a video as a template, the entire video is copied, converted into an Amplify template, and moved to the Template Library. In addition, specific elements — such as data fields and certain sharing options — are also saved.
After the template is created from the original video, you can edit it as needed by removing any content that is not required and adding any additional content you want to make available to your Contributors.
Saving a Video as an Amplify Template
These instructions assume you are working in the Video Library, in grid view. If you are in list view, the steps are similar, but the Options menu appears at the end of each video row. You can also follow the same steps from the Video Page, where the Options menu is accessed in the upper-left of the page.
| 1. | In the Video Library, locate the video you want to save as a template. |
| 2. | Beneath the thumbnail, click the three-dot Options menu. |
| 3. | Click Save as template. ▶ If this option is unavailable, the video is using a legacy data library. Videos that use this type of data library cannot be saved as templates. For more information or assistance, reach out to SundaySky Support. |
| The Save as template window is displayed. Take note of the message at the top of the window, which appears only when relevant and informs you that some elements may change when saving the video as a template. See Video-to-Template Differences below for more information. | |
| 4. | In the Template name field, type the name you want to give the template. ▶ By default, the template name is the name of the video you are copying, with template added at the end. |
| 5. | In the Template purpose field, select the relevant purpose. ▶ Templates in Amplify are organized by purpose, making it easier for Contributors to find them. If the purpose you need is not in the list, you can add a new one. |
| 6. | In the Description field, write a concise description that explains what the template should be used for. |
| 7. | Click Save as template at the bottom of the window. |
| The new template is opened in the Template Page. | |
| 8. | Click Edit in the center of the page to open the Studio and begin editing the template. ▶ For guidance on the next steps, you can refer to Getting Started with Templates (beginning with step 4). |
Video-to-Template Differences
When you save a video as a template, most of its elements are copied but some are adapted for template use. The table below outlines how key elements behave in the original video compared to the resulting template.
| Element | Video Behavior | Template Behavior |
| Translation feature | Used to translate the source language into multiple target languages. | Only the source language is retained in the template. |
| Data connector | Connects to a data source to enable personalization in the video. | Data connector is removed and replaced by the Amplify input form that Contributors use to customize the template. |
| Data field only | Used for 1:1 personalization in the video. | Converted to a free-form input field in the template. |
| Data field only — used for media | Configures media according to the data feed in the video. | Converted to a media upload input field in the template. |
| Data field and values | Used for Message by Audience or narration in the video. | Converted to a multiple choice input field in the template. |
| SundaySky landing page | Used to host the video. | Landing page is copied "as is" to the template and enabled as the default sharing method. Other sharing options can be configured if needed. |
| Embed code | Used for embedding the video on a website. | Embed code configuration is copied to the template, but requires additional setup to enable as a sharing method. See Video Link — Embed Code for step-by-step instructions. |
