Configuring Text with a Personalization Token

Introduction

Using a personalization token, the on-screen text in your video can be personalized for your viewers using data unique to them.

In the example below, viewers are greeted by their first name in the opening of the video. Note that all the other components of the scene are identical.

Here are additional examples of how on-screen text can be personalized to create a more customized viewing experience:

1. In a video highlighting insurance plans, the plan held by the viewer can be displayed.

2. In a job recruitment video, the name of the offered position can be displayed in selected scenes.

3. In a video providing a monthly financial statement, the viewer's bank details can be displayed in the relevant scene.

When you use a personalization token, the token represents data that is passed to SundaySky for each viewer. The token, created with a data field, is populated with actual data passed to SundaySky when the video is rendered for the viewer. In order to implement a personalization token for on-screen text, you'll need to create the relevant data field. If the data field has associated values, these too need to be created.
See Managing the SundaySky Data Library to learn how to create data fields and values.

For example:
If you are displaying Welcome to your first day as a {employee position},
you would create a data field called employee position together with the possible values that this data field can have (Product Manager, HR Manager, Support Team Member, Help Desk Expert). In the video, using a curly bracket, you will create a personalization token representing the employee position.

7. Enter the text that you want to display when data is not available. This text is referred to as default text.
▶ In the example below: if a viewer's first name is not passed in the data, Welcome! will be displayed in the scene.

8. Click anywhere outside the text window to save the configuration.

An icon is added to the text placeholder to indicate that personalization has been added.

Notes

1. Only one personalization token can be added to a text placeholder.
2. The font size used for the text in the placeholder depends on the length of the text. The longer the text, the smaller the font size will be, to enable all the text to display in the placeholder.
