Overview
The narration in a video can be personalized for viewers using data unique to them. Here are some examples of how a narration can be personalized to create a more customized viewing experience:
- In the opening scene, the viewer's name is narrated before a general greeting.
- In an onboarding video, the viewer's new role is narrated when outlining the role and responsibilities.
- In a college recruitment video, the name of the viewer's high school is narrated when highlighting the student body.
When you use a personalization token, the token represents data that is passed to SundaySky for each viewer. The token, created with a data field, is populated with actual data passed to SundaySky when the video is rendered for the viewer. In order to implement a personalization token in a narration, you'll need to create the relevant data field, together with the values that you would like to have narrated for this data field (example below).
See Creating a New Data Library to learn how to create data fields and values.
For example:
If you are narrating Welcome to the {department name} department,
you need to create a data field called department name together with the values that you want narrated (Finance, People, Customer Support, R&D). In the video, using curly brackets, you'll create a personalization token representing the department name.
If you do not add the department name values, the data field (department name) is not eligible for narration. |
Configuring the Narration
1. | Open the relevant video in the Studio. |
2. | Select the scene that you want to personalize. |
3. | Double-click the narration placeholder. |
4. | Begin by typing the narration that you want everyone to hear. |
5. | Position the cursor where you want to insert the personalization token and then type a left curly bracket﹛. |
A drop-down list with all the available data fields is displayed.
6. | Select the data field that you want to use for the personalization token. ▶ In the example below, viewers will hear their first name followed by the text that everyone will hear. ▶ Only one personalization token can be added to a narration placeholder. |
7. |
Type the fallback narration. This is the text that will be narrated when data is not available. ▶ In the example below: if a viewer's first name was not added as a value, the narration will be: Hi, here are a few fun facts about our company that we'd like to share with you. |
8. | Preview the narrations with the AI voice selected for the video. ▶ If required, adjust any pronunciation using the Pronunciation Library. |
9. | Click anywhere outside the Narration dialog window to close the window. |
An icon is added to the narration placeholder and to the scene thumbnail in the line-up to indicate that personalization has been added.
