Q4 2026 AI Voice Expiration - Walkthrough & FAQ

AI voices are key to scaling personalized video - allowing you to deliver customized narration to every individual, infused with data about them and their activity. In effort to enhance AI voice quality and pronunciation reliability, while introducing new features including expressiveness and control, we’re making some changes to the existing AI Voices in the Voice Library. These changes underpin the enhancements to voices that will release through Q4.

On December 31, 2026, 18 AI voices in the Voice Library will expire and can no longer be used to generate new narration. These voices are expiring due to their incompatibility with new/upcoming voice features and coinciding with a sunsetting of those expiring voices by the voice provider. We refer to the expiring voices as “Legacy voices” in this article and other communications. Starting November 2, 2026, legacy voices are labeled in SundaySky Create, and a recommended replacement for each one is available in the Voice Library.

In this article, you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about the expiring voices, including what you will see starting November 2, 2026, and changes that apply on January 1, 2027. If you have a question that is not covered below or for assistance in switching an AI voice, reach out to SundaySky Support.

1.

What happens on November 2, 2026?
New voices that replace the legacy ones are added to the Voice Library. They are listed at the top in alphabetical order, with the expiring voices below them.
You can identify the expiring voices by the Expires 12/31/26 label that appears by their name.
Nothing is blocked, and no video changes voice unless you choose to change it.

2.

How can I know if a video is using an expiring voice?
If a video is using an expiring voice, notifications are displayed throughout the platform, prompting you to select a new voice. Each notification gives the expiration date and the recommended replacement. Below are examples of the notifications in the main locations for a video that uses Jessica:

The notifications in the Video Page, Studio, and Voice Library include a Use button that names the recommended replacement, such as Use Jade for a video that uses Jessica. The button switches the video to that voice. They also include a Change voice button, which opens the Voice Library so you can choose a different voice.

3. Do I need to do anything right now?
No. If none of your videos use an expiring voice, there is nothing you need to do. Videos that use an expiring voice keep working until the voice expires. Published videos and audio that has already been generated keep working after that, too.
We recommend switching to a new voice before December 31, 2026, so you are not stopped the next time you need to update a video.

4.

How do I switch a video to a new voice?

  1. Open the video in the Studio and click the Use button that names the recommended replacement voice to switch to it, or click Change voice to choose a different voice from the Voice Library.
  2. Preview the narration to hear the new voice.
  3. Watch the full video to check that the pace of each scene and the overall length still feel right.
  4. Republish the video, or approve it if it has not been published yet.

5. Does the replacement voice sound the same?
No. Each replacement is a recommendation, and its tone and style can differ from the voice it replaces. Preview the narration in the new voice before you switch.
To assist you in locating a voice similar to the one you are currently using, see our Recommendations for Switching a Voice in the section below.

6. Which voice do new and duplicated videos use?
New blank videos and videos created from slides start with Jade, which replaces Jessica as the default voice.
A duplicated video keeps the voice of the original video, so the same rules apply to it.

7.

What exactly happens on January 1, 2027?
The expired voices can no longer create new audio. They are removed from the Voice Library, except for the expired voice that the open video uses.
You can identify this voice by the Expired label that appears by its name.

8.

What keeps working after the voice expires?
Published videos keep playing, and audio that has already been generated keeps working.
If the narration in a video has not changed since it was last published, you can still preview it, and you can approve, publish, or republish it as normal.

9.

What stops working after the voice expires?
Anything that needs new audio in the expired voice is blocked until you choose a new voice. This includes editing the narration, previewing narration that has changed, downloading a draft or getting a review link for a video whose narration has changed, and approving, publishing, or republishing a video that needs new audio.
Each of these shows a message with a Change voice button, which opens the Voice Library. For example, publishing a video that needs new audio shows this message:

A message reading: This video can't be published because its narration needs new audio and its voice has expired. Choose a new voice to publish.
A message reading: This video can't be published because its narration needs new audio and its voice has expired. Choose a new voice to publish.

Once you choose a voice that has not expired, publishing works again.

10.

What counts as needing new audio?

  • Changing the narration text. Personalized narration counts as a narration change.
  • Changing a pronunciation or the narration speed.
  • Publishing a draft that has never been published. Audio created when you preview is not saved with the video, so a draft that you have only previewed needs new audio to publish.

A video that was published before the voice expired, and whose narration has not changed since, does not need new audio.

11. Why do I not see the Expired label or the notifications?
Expired voice notifications and labels are shown only to users who can edit the video. If you have view-only access, you will not see them.

12. Are Amplify videos that were already shared affected?
No. Amplify videos that have already been shared keep playing.

13. What do I need to do if I build Amplify templates?
The voice on an Amplify template is set in Create, and contributors cannot change it. An editor needs to update any Amplify template that uses an expiring voice. We strongly recommend updating these Amplify templates in Create and republishing them to Amplify before December 31, 2026.
Starting January 1, 2027, a Create video whose voice has expired cannot be made available as an Amplify template, even if its narration has not changed. This message appears with a Change voice button:
This template can't be made available in Amplify because its voice has expired. Choose a new voice to continue.

14.

What happens when a contributor makes a video from an Amplify template that uses an expired voice?
Starting January 1, 2027, when a contributor opens or selects an Amplify template whose voice has expired, Amplify shows this notice. The notice has no button, because contributors cannot edit Amplify templates or change the voice:
This template's voice has expired. If your video needs new audio, it will be made with Jade, the recommended replacement.
The voice named in the notice is the recommended replacement for the Amplify template's voice. In this example, the template uses Jessica, so the notice names Jade. A video uses one voice only. If all of the audio for the video has already been created, the video uses it as is, in the original voice. If any part of the video needs new audio, the whole video is made in the recommended replacement voice.
The Amplify template itself keeps its original voice until an editor chooses a new one in Create and republishes it to Amplify. We strongly recommend doing this before December 31, 2026, so videos made from your Amplify templates use the voice you chose.
