Introduction
Video personalization requires connecting between the SundaySky Video Platform and the data source in your company. A data library, with its several components, is the bridge between these two entities. Setting up this library is the first step in creating personalized video content.
Your SundaySky account can have one or more data libraries, all of which are available to all users of your account. Having the data libraries at the account level means that the same library can be used for multiple videos, saving you much time and effort. Reusing existing libraries instead of having to create a separate data library for each video also reduces reliance on IT resources, making you completely independent. All of these benefits translate into a shortened time for video creation.
Data Library Components
A data library includes the following components:
-
Data fields. A data field is the entity by which you personalize aspects of your video, such as a viewer's first name or role. The data field that you create in the SundaySky data library needs to correlate directly with the data field in your source data record. When the video is shared, the value that is in each record is passed to SundaySky and displayed according to viewer. A data field can hold a value that is unique to each viewer such as first name, or it can represent an attribute—for example, department—that can hold several values (Finance, HR, Product).
In the platform, personalization is implemented by audience messaging or by using a personalization token.
-
Data connector. This is the instrument that connects data from a data source (for example, a data file) to the SundaySky Video Platform where it is used for personalizing videos for your viewers. SundaySky has an ever-growing library of connectors, from which you can choose. A data library can have only one data connector.
- Mapping. This is the process that connects the data fields in the SundaySky data library to the corresponding fields in your data source. This important step ensures that when your video calls for personalized content, the right data is fetched from the source and applied to the video.
This article covers how to launch a new library and create data fields. After you complete the steps in this article, continue to Setting up Data Integration in a Data Library to learn how to attach a data connector and map the data fields.
Key Points
- Multiple data libraries can be created in the SundaySky platform.
- A data library is located at the account level and is available for any video created in the account by any user.
- Each data library is connected to a single data source.
- A video can use only one data library.
- A data library only provides the schema for the data that you want to use to personalize a video; it does not store the data itself. Rather, it is used to connect your video to the data source.
- If this is the first time that you are creating a data library, we recommend that you read Video Personalization—How It Works.
Note:
All the data libraries created on the video level before September 12, 2023 have been migrated to the account level. The name of a migrated data library is identical to the name of the video in which the library was created.
Beginning on September 12th, you will have access to all the data libraries associated with your account, regardless of who created them.
Launching a New Data Library
1. |
Access the relevant video in the Studio. |
2. |
Select Data in the sidebar. |
3. |
Click +Create New Library. |
4. |
Enter a name for the new library. |
5. |
(Optional) Enter a description for the new library. |
6. |
Click Create. |
The new data library is opened. Note that one data field, id, already appears. This is a system data field that is used for reporting purposes. It cannot be deleted. |
|
|
|
7. |
Add the data fields as described in the next section. |
Adding a Data Field
Before starting, note the following: |
|
1. |
We recommend that you not create data fields to hold sensitive information including, but not limited to, the following: passwords, financial account information, personal health information, ID and Social Security numbers. |
2. |
The instructions in this article apply to adding data fields and values manually. If you prefer, you can also set up your library by uploading a file with the relevant data fields and values. See Importing Data Fields and Values to learn how. |
1. |
Click Create Data Field. |
|
|
2. |
Enter the name of the data field. |
3. |
(Optional) Check the PII checkbox if the data field pertains to personally identifiable information (see our recommendation above). |
4.a. |
(Optional) If this data field is being used for audience messaging or in a voice-over narration, add all the values that this data field can have. |
4.b. |
Enter the name of the first value and then click + (or ENTER) to enter all the values that you need. |
Note: |
|
4.c. |
After you have added all the values, click Save. |
The data field is added to the library. |
|
5. |
Repeat steps 1-4 to add all the additional data fields. |
6. |
Click Done to close the library. |
7. |
After you have added all the fields, continue to selecting a data connector and mapping the data fields. |
Editing a Data Field
Warning:
A data field is a component of a data library. The same data library can be used in multiple videos. If you edit a data field, it affects all the videos using the same data library. We therefore recommend proceeding with caution.
1. |
Hover over the data field that you want to edit. |
2. |
Click the three-dot menu at the end of the row and then select Edit. |
3. |
Edit the data field as required: |
4. |
Click Save. |
The data field is updated. All videos in draft mode using this data library will see the updated data field. |
|
5. |
Click Done to close the library. |
Editing a Data Field Value
Warning:
A data field value is a component of a data library. The same data library can be used in multiple videos. If you edit a data field value, it affects all the videos using the same data library. We therefore recommend proceeding with caution.
If a data field in your library includes values, you may need to edit them or add new ones.
1. |
Hover over the data field whose values you want to edit. |
2. |
Click the three-dot menu at the end of the row and then select Edit. |
3. |
Edit the values using the following options: |
4. |
After you have finished making all the changes, click Save. |
The data library is updated accordingly. All videos in draft mode using this data library will now include the updated data field values. |
|
5. | Click Done to close the library. |
Deleting a Data Field
Warning:
A data field is a component of a data library. The same data library can be used in multiple videos. If you delete a data field, it affects all the videos using the same data library. We therefore recommend proceeding with caution.
A data field can only be deleted if it is not being used in a video or for Brand by Audience. If it is, you'll need to remove the data field from the video or Brand by Audience before you can delete it from the data library. For your convenience, you can refer to the data library to see in which videos the data field is being used.
1. |
Hover over the data field that you want to delete. |
2. |
Click the three-dot menu at the end of the row and then select Delete. |
3. |
If you are sure that you no longer need the data field, click Delete again. |
The data field is deleted. |
Deleting a Data Field Value
Warning:
A data field value is a component of a data library. The same data library can be used in multiple videos. If you delete a data field value, it affects all the videos using the same data library. We therefore recommend proceeding with caution.
You can delete a value that you are no longer using. Note that there are two cases in which, when deleting values, you will need to keep at least one of them:
a) the data field is being used for audience messaging
b) the data field is being used for a voice-over with a personalization token
To see in which videos the values are being used, refer to the Used in videos column in the data library.
1. |
Hover over the data field that is associated with the value that you want to delete. |
2. |
Click the three-dot menu at the end of the row and then select Edit. |
3. |
Click the trash icon by the value that you want to delete. |
4. |
Click Save. |
The data library is updated accordingly. |
