Overview
Importing a scene allows you to reuse a scene you've already created instead of rebuilding it from scratch — saving time and ensuring consistency across your videos. Using this feature, you can import a scene from one video into another.
If your organization uses Amplify, you can also:
- Import a scene from a template into another template
- Import a scene from a template into a video
- Import a scene from a video into a template
Scenes from archived videos can also be imported, making it easy to repurpose past content for new projects.
When you import a scene, it automatically uses the design settings of the video you're importing it into. The aspect ratio, brand, theme, and AI voice defined in the destination video are applied to the imported scene, ensuring the scene aligns seamlessly with your current video.
Limitations
Importing a scene is powerful, but it does have a few restrictions. Here's what you need to know before importing:
| 1. | A scene can only be imported if the languages in the imported scene match those in the destination video. In the example shown below, although English is the source language, the translation languages differ between the videos. As a result, scenes from one video cannot be imported into the other. | ||
| 2. | A personalized video scene (using data fields) can only be imported into a video that shares the same data library as the video from which the scene is being imported. | ||
| 3. | A personalized video scene (using data fields) cannot be imported into an Amplify template. | ||
| 4. | A personalized scene from an Amplify template (using input fields) cannot be imported into another Amplify template or into any video. | ||
| 5. | A custom scene can only be imported into a video that uses one of the following themes: Modern, Waves, or Minimal | ||
| 6. | A scene with one or more expired media assets cannot be imported. |
In some cases, a limitation can be resolved before importing. For example, the destination video's theme can be switched to Modern, Waves, or Minimal to support importing a custom scene, or expired Getty media assets can be removed from the scene to allow import. However, since these adjustments require changes to either the destination video or the imported scene, consider whether the effort involved justifies the outcome.
Importing a Scene
| 1. | In the Studio, open the video into which you want to import a scene. |
| 2. | From the scene line-up, select the scene after which you want the imported scene to appear. |
| 3. | Click the plus sign at the end of the scene line-up. |
| 4. | In the Scene Library, click Import scene in the left sidebar. |
| The Import scene page is displayed. This page is used to locate the scene you want to import. Its structure and functionality are similar to those of the Video Library. | |
| 5. | Use the following tips to locate the relevant scene: a. At the top of the page, select either Video Library or Amplify Template Library (if available) to refine your search. b. Use the search bar in the upper-right corner to search for a scene, video, template, or folder by name. c. If you locate a folder, video, or template, click through until you reach the individual scenes. |
| When the scenes are displayed, the following components appear on the page: a. Folder path — Displays the location of the video within the library. b. Adjustment notice — Indicates which elements in the imported scene will be updated to match the destination video (in the example below: brand, theme, and voice). c. Scene details — Shows the scene number, scene name, and narration. Hovering over the narration displays the full text, which can help determine whether the scene is the correct one to import. d. Caution icon — Appears beneath scenes that cannot be imported due to one of the limitations described above. Hovering over the icon details the specific limitation. |
|
| 6. | Hover over the thumbnail of the scene you want to import, and then click + Import scene. ▶ From the same video, multiple scenes can be imported one after another. |
| 7. | After importing the desired scenes, click Done in the bottom-right corner of the page. |
| The imported scene is added to the video and appears in the scene line-up. | |
Searching for a Scene
When importing a scene, you can search for it within videos or, if your organization uses Amplify, within templates as well. The search experience is similar to the one in the Video Library, with one key difference: in addition to locating videos, templates, or folders, you can also search for individual scenes.
To learn more about basic search functionality, see Searching in SundaySky.
Because scenes are searchable by name, assigning clear and meaningful names when creating them makes it much easier to locate the right scene later.
| 1. | In the search bar in the upper-right corner of the page, type the name of the scene you want to import. |
| As you type in the search bar, matching results appear in a list. Results are grouped by category — scenes, folders, videos, or templates — and only categories with matching results are displayed. | |
| 2. | Select the relevant result from the list. ▶ In the example below, a scene is selected from the results list and displayed on the page. If a video, template, or folder is selected instead, you'll need to open it and navigate to the specific scene you want to use. |
