Creating a Video from Scratch

Overview

When you create a video from scratch, you begin with a blank canvas that allows you to define every creative and structural element of the video. This article walks you through the full creation workflow, from setting up your video to building scenes and adding content. Along the way, you'll find practical guidance and tips to help you design an effective, polished video that meets your goals.

Starting a New Video

Before you begin building your video, start by setting its basic properties, including the video name and aspect ratio.

1. Log in to SundaySky Create.
2. In the Video Library, click Create in the left sidebar.
3. Click New video from scratch.
4. Type a name for your video.
▶ This name will be shown at the top of the video transcript.
  Enter_video_name.png
5. Select the aspect ratio for your video (16:9, 9:16, or 4:5).
▶ You can change the aspect ratio later, even after creating the video.
6. Click Start.
The new video opens in the SundaySky Studio, ready for you to work on. One scene (designed for a single message with media) is automatically added to the video. If this scene doesn't fit your use case, you can delete it.

Building the Video

Once your video is set up, this section walks you through building the video.

2. Begin by editing the brand components: logo, colors, text styles, and button style.
▶ For detailed instructions, jump to the step-by-step articles related to the brand.
3. Select a theme. By default, the Modern theme is selected.
4. (Optional) If you are personalizing the video with data, select a data library or create a new one.
▶ For detailed instructions, jump to the step-by-step articles related to video personalization.
5. Add scenes to the video according to the story that you are building. For help in getting started, see Spark Your Creativity with Scene Templates.

8. When you have finished creating the video, approve it and share it with your audience.

Helpful Tips

1. For a strong foundation, we recommend reading Getting Started with SundaySky and Best Practices for Video Creation Using SundaySky.
2. All actions available for a scene can be accessed in two places: the three-dot Options menu on the scene thumbnail in the scene line-up, and the Scene Actions toolbar next to the scene in the Workspace.

3. To explore alternative ways to present your content, click Switch layout in the Scene Actions toolbar. Switching layouts gives you creative flexibility in how each scene communicates its message.

4. If you're creating a vertical video for social media, avoid using scenes with buttons, as the buttons won't be clickable when the video is played on social platforms.
5. Preview your video frequently as you work to catch any issues early. If your video uses data for personalization, use viewer profiles to see exactly how it will appear for different audiences.
